In a nutshell, good mogul skiing is all about mastering 3 mogul skiing techniques - control, balance and tactics
Control is a prerequisite to developing confidence, avoiding injury, facilitates your ability to stay in balance and puts you in the driver's seat (you are the CEO of your own skiing). Good control enables you to be proactive rather than reactive, eliminates the need for fast reflexes and allows you the time to turn when, and where, you want to.
Balance involves understanding how, and why, some of the little things that you do can result in you losing your balance, or being in a mode where you are always fighting to get back into balance. As a general rule, out-of-balance conditions are not caused by terrain conditions, but rather by the skier making unnecesary or inappropriate moves that result in an out-of-balance situation.
Tactics enable you to better understand mogul and powder terrain and to make your turns in the most appropriate location, given your goals and objectives. If you want to ski fast then you should make your turns in locations that will produce faster speeds. However, if you prefer to ski slowly then you must understand the most appropriate turn locations that will result in a slower speed.
Learn these three mogul skiing techniques and you will be able to "escape the corduroy" and be able to confidently and safely ski the entire mountain.
