Meet Coach Joe
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS coach and founder Joe Nevin grew up as a Army brat and followed the typical pattern of moving from base to base. Joe was born in PA. then spent time living on Army bases in TX, LA and CA. He earned his undergraduate degree at USC and an M.S. in Management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. We’re pretty sure he’s the only M.I.T. graduate who ‘grew up’ to be a ski instructor.
Joe began his career at a High-Tech startup, then worked as a management consultant in the Information Technology field followed by seven years in Banking. He returned to the High-Tech industry in 1979 when Andy Grove recruited him to work at Intel. In 1985 Apple sought his services and, after “surviving” an interview with Steve Jobs, Joe spent the next 12 years at Apple before retiring from Corporate America in 1997.
After retirement Joe started a 2nd career to follow his passion for skiing. Having previously taught skiing at Alpine Meadows in Lake Tahoe, he and his wife Nancy moved to Aspen in 1998 where he began teaching for the Aspen Skiing Company and subsequently founded the BUMPS FOR BOOMERS program.
Meet Coach Larry
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS coach Larry Feher is a veteran ski instructor with PSIA Level 3 certification and has been teaching skiing since 1971. His experience includes assignments at Jackson Hole, Bridger Bowl, Taos and Red River. Larry has been teaching skiing in Aspen since 1994.
Larry knows a thing or two about aging joints and fitness. He played football and rugby in college and spent six years in NYC as a high school varsity football and rugby coach. (Our New York clients love Larry!) He was a varsity football coach at Bozeman High School while earning his Master’s degree.
Larry received his BS from Columbia University in Industrial Engineering, his MS in Health and Physical Education from Montana State and a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. He has been certified as a Health-fitness Instructor since 1989 by the American College of Sports Medicine.
His outdoor interests include Road and Mountain biking, golf, and riding my motorcycles with friends and his wife Lorraine.
Meet Coach Alan
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS coach Alan Bush is a veteran PSIA Level 3 ski instructor who has been teaching skiing at Aspen Highlands since 1980 (35 years!). He has a solid mogul skiing background and, if you are feeling aggressive, can help you overcome the challenges of double-black diamond terrain in Steeplechase, Temerity, or the unrivaled experience of conquering (or maybe just surviving) the incredible Aspen Highlands Bowl.
Originally from Athens, Georgia, Alan has a BS Degree in Physics from Stanford University and is a Licensed Real Estate Broker Associate. Alan is a great family man – married with two boys – and you will quite frequently see him around town in his Scoutmaster uniform.
Meet Coach Bob
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS coach Bob Mattice grew up in Woodstock, N.Y., and still sports a ‘hippie’ ponytail! Bob is a veteran Level 3 PSIA ski instructor with tons of mogul and powder experience. Bob started teaching skiing in 1983 and his experience includes time at Hunter Mountain as the Director of Skiing. He then was the Ski School Director for 12 years at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) in Durango, Colorado. He and his family moved to Aspen in 2004 where he’s been teaching ever since.
Bob is married with two grown children. He enjoys music, reading, fitness, hiking, road and mountain biking. In the Summer, you’ll find him on the beaches in Hawaii.
Meet Coach Cindy
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS coach Cindy began teaching skiing in 1985 in Vermont, where she graduated from college majoring in science and education. She taught at Smugglers Notch for 16 years, then moved to Snowmass in 1999 and has been teaching skiing there since then.
Cindy teaches lots of black diamond and aspiring double black skiers. Her favorite place to teach and ski is Highland Bowl, but she also has fun helping people to be able to ski slowly and comfortably in all kinds of terrain. Watch out! Her enthusiasm is contagious and you might just find yourself skiing terrain you hadn’t thought possible.
Cindy is certified PSIA Level 3 in Alpine and Telemark Skiing and has her Level 1 certification in Snowboarding. She is also Accredited with PSIA in Children’s Teaching.
In the summer and fall, Cindy leads professional cycling tours in Maine, Quebec, and Vermont!
Meet Coach Sam
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS coach Sam Green is a Boomer with a sparkle in his eyes, who is uniquely qualified to teach you the skills to confidently ski moguls and powder. Born in Georgia, Sam initially taught skiing while in college and then set out on a 30-year career in Entertainment and Sports with experience in film and TV and Broadway. He was both a Producer and Director of Sports Events with CBS, Fox and ESPN with nine Emmy Awards to his credit. Feeling a renewed passion for the mountains, he “retired” in 2001 and moved to Aspen to teach skiing, yet again.
