Read what the New York Times

Listen to what National Public Radio
has to say about Bumps for Boomers,
Baby Boomers Desire Mountains.
We ask each of our mogul and powder skiing program participants to answer a "blind" survey and tell us how they felt about their participation in the Aspen, Colorado BUMPS FOR BOOMERS ® ski lesson program.
When asked: "Describe how you felt about your participation in the BUMPS FOR BOOMERS program. Any comments about the program design, coaching quality, knowledge you gained, new skills you learned and/or the degree to which we achieved your personal goals would be appreciated." ... here is what they told us - unedited and in the raw:
Significant & noticeable improvement in skiing style, positioning/balance etc demonstrated in completing several double blacks after the clinic with some reasonable comfort. No stress in thighs!! Excellent coaching means moguls have far less "fear element" and I am now able to take them on - and complete them!
This was my fourth experience with BFB. I realized that the reason it seems to get better each year is not because the program lacked anything in previous years, but that I am getting more out of each year because the instructors pay attention to each student's progress and keep building on the foundation, layer by layer.
excellent. am skiing any part of the mountain i want without fear. in control and having fun. the key for me ulimately is using shorter skis with the techique learned at the clinic.
I believe this is the best ski instruction program for adults in existence. The instructors were superb, and they helped me to gain important skills that have changed my outlook on skiing in general, and eliminated any anxiety about difficult terrain.
Very nice program. I felt significant improvement. I had high expectations given the web site and those were met.
My second time at this clinic. I learned a great deal, and feel that espescially compared to last time that a certain level of proficiency is a prerequisite. Last year I got very little from it due to my lack of skill.
I was sceptical during the first 2 days if all the practice of technique and all of the use of skiboards would actually pay off. On the third day on regular skis I was perfectly comfortable doing bumps and trees that I might have gotten down previously but, with fear in my heart and sweat in my eyes. At the end of that day we were skiing steep bumps and powder in the trees that I just would not have attempted previously. I skied on a fourth day on my own. By the middle of the day I realized the question was no longer where I could ski but, where I wanted to ski. I could ski all of Aspen and was excited but, relaxed doing it! It was a real breakthrough for me. The imporovement has lasted. For the past 2 weekends I have skied all of the bump runs and glades at Stowe with confidence. Even climbed out of bounds to the top of Mount Mansfield and skied back down. I am still working on the really tight eastern trees and have the green and brown marks all over my helmet to prove it. Please thank my instructor Alan Bush. His explanations, coaching and guiding were just right for me. He and the course opened up a whole new playground for me. I haven't skied a groomed run since I took the course.
JOE DID A SUPERB JOB OF DISTILLING SKIING INTO VERY SIMPLE TERMS...HIS PATIENCE WAS ALSO APPRECIATED...I WAS VERY HESITANT WHEN WE SIGNED UP FOR THIS CLINIC BUT THOROUGHLY ENJOYED ALL THREE DAYS
I thought the course was excellent. My instructor, Larry Feher< was terrific. I was surprised that the other skiers would be better and, therefore, that I would be pushed harder. Overall, a great experience.
The technique is appropriate for teaching intermediates to ski moguls, but the technique is less suitable for advanced/expert mogul skiers. I still find it more fun to ski directly down the fall line with absorption and extension. Intermediates cannot ski that way and your technique is a better alternative. I would highly recommend the program to my intermediate level friends, but probably not to advanced or expert skiers.
I greatly enjoyed and benefited from the program. Joe's teaching was the right combination of encouragement and tough love. It worked on breaking bad habits and made a start on teaching me skills I need to ski under control off the groomed runs. In my one day of skiing after the class I was able to negotiate blue bump runs under pretty good control and without terror (after the first run). I hope to be able to return for more lessons.
Program design and coaching quality were excellent. The knowledge imparted and skills learned were simple, but incredibly valuable.
Disappointed in the group experience.
I was older and less experienced than the other skiers, plus I had never been to Aspen and didn't realize how steep it was. I probably shouldn't have been in the class. But I learned a lot and feel I'll be a better skier as a result of the class.
Superb coach! Very clear in his explanation.very analytic. OVERALL though the program should be more time conscious and "tighter":at about a cost of 1$ per minute (not counting liftticket and acommodation, etc),too much time spent waiting at start of day, lunch, etc...
second time around. i think it produced a major breakthrough. Great coaches!
I participated the last week of January when there was lots of fresh snow and no bumps to be found. Nevertheless, I think I got more out of this clinic about how to be a better skier than any lessons I've ever taken. I benefited from spending time with both Alan and Sam. Both had different teaching techniques. Alan was more verbal. He discussed and explained techniques over and over again verbally. Sam gave us brief verbal explanations and then put us through our paces to get the "feel of it" ... building "muscle memory", as he called it. Glad I could experience both teaching techniques ... and I found Sam's muscle memory concept the more helpful. But, in Alan's defense, I spent two days with Sam after a full day listening to Alan tell me over and over how to do it right. Thanks for a great three days. I'll be back next year when there are bumps.
The instruction is broken down to simple basics which enabled me to gain confidence in all conditions. Especially powder!
the experience was transformative. would have loved to have had 3 full days and plan to return next winter to go thru again.
This program definitely made a change in my skiing -- now I am not limiting the terrain/conditions that I can ski. I'm looking for bumps and chopped up powder, even on steep runs, because I now know what to do to control my speed.
I stopped looking for "bumps" and started to look for places to turn. After two more days of skiing, I finally conquered the twig! Ask Joe. He will know what that means!
i think Sam did a great job, less talk and more skiing
Achieved great control never had before.Short skis in the new powder very difficult for me.
Starting us on the short skis really helped my stance. As I already told Joe, I only wish someone had done this with me years ago. I am now actually skiing terrain I was merely getting down before and having a great time doing it.
