The Easiest Way To Ski Moguls | Ski The Green Line

The Green Line Is The Easiest Way To Ski Moguls And The Best Mogul Skiing Technique For Beginner Bump Skiers because it is the slowest and most controlled way to ski a mogul run.

Ski-The-Green-Line

The Green Line gives you the best chance of staying in balance and the best likelihood that you will achieve maximum speed control. As a result, using the Green Line will be the fastest way to build confidence in off-piste mogul and powder terrain.

A Green Line turn does not require fast reflexes and can enable you to ski any challenging bump run as if it was an easy green run.

A Green Line turn has a smaller radius than the trough – e.g. you make your turn and stay on the same mogul that you initiated your turn on.

The Green Line enables you to ski a challenging bump run like it is an easy green run.

How To Ski Bumps – The Green Line Is The Slowest Way To Ski A Mogul Run

Here is an introduction on how to Ski The Green Line.

First, re-familiarize yourself with both how to control your speed in moguls using a drifted turn and the six unique terrain features of every mogul as described in previous sections of the Mogul Skiing Technique Learning Center. Then …

The easiest way to ski moguls is to use this three-step movement sequence to Ski The Green Line:

Step 01. Drift down to, and arrive slowly on, the flat top (FT) of a mogul where you intend to initiate your next turn.

Step 02. Initiate a Green Line turn on the flat top of that mogul by steering your skis perpendicular to the secondary fall line of the same mogul that you initiated your turn on. Drift (on soft edges with your skis perpendicular to the fall line) down the secondary fall line while keeping your skis between the spine and the trough.

Note: When drifting down the secondary fall line avoid crossing over the spine to the other side of the mogul unless it is your intent to make a second turn on the same mogul and drift down the opposite side of the mogul. If you cross over the spine and don’t adjust your skis to be perpendicular to the fall line on the other side of the spine there is a high probability that your skis will shoot forward and you will run the risk of burying your ski tips.

Step 03. Arrive slowly on the flat top of a mogul below where you intend to initiate your next turn and repeat the turn sequence.

The goal is to drift in The Green Zone on the side of the mogul between the spine and the trough. This will prevent you from picking up speed because your skis will be perpendicular to the secondary fall line on the side of the mogul.

Two Visualizations That Help Explain How To Ski The The Green Line

Visualize the Green Line as skiing from one flat mogul top to another flat mogul top. Each of those flat mogul tops can be though of as a series of individual small green runs embedded in the overall mogul run. Since you are initiating each turn on a flat mogul top, it is like making all your turns on easy green terrain.

Another way to visualize the Green Line is to view the moguls as stairs with flat tops. You then conceptually “walk” down the stairs – in a slow and controlled way – to the bottom of the mogul run.

As your confidence and skill grows by skiing The Green Line you may choose to advance to the Blue Line … or even optionally ski the faster Black Line.
