Aspen Hotel Lodging Options for the 2022-2023 Ski Season
Hello Skiers!
How’s your ski conditioning going? Have you booked, thought about booking, dreamed about booking your ski trip? While it’s impossible to predict the coming season, Summer has been busy here in Aspen and we expect the pace to continue into Winter. Historically we have not recommended specific hotels but with some lodging changes and the volume of visitors to Aspen, we are hoping this update will speed your travel planning. We are very excited to welcome you to Aspen for a mogul skiing clinic, a ‘groomers’ clinic or private lesson. Remember to book your 4-day clinic before September 30th to save $200!
For personalized assistance with lodging packages, we recommend you contact Aspen’s Central Reservation group Stay Aspen/Snowmass (SAS) at 1-800-456-0897. Or explore options on-line Book your lodging with SAS and enjoy $75/day lift tickets with the “75th Anniversary” and/or the “Ski Early or Stay Late” offers (call for restrictions). If you don’t have a ski pass, $75/day is a great rate for lift tickets.
Local Hotels in Downtown Aspen
For fans of the Mountain Chalet, good news! While the hotel has been sold and redevelopment plans are rumored, thus far the hotel remains the same and is open this Winter… The Mountain Chalet sells out every season and this Winter will be a memorable one. You cannot beat the location/price. Rooms are a little dated, but the property is clean and comfortable and you’ll be treated like family.
The Molly Gibson Hotel has been demolished and is being rebuilt and will not be available this ski season. Their sister property across the street, Hotel Aspen is also being renovated and rebuilt.
The Annabelle Inn Located on Main Street with 35 rooms, this cozy lodge includes continental breakfast and apres’ ski goodies. We recommend requesting a room that does not face Main Street. Book a ‘premium’ 3rd floor room for the quietest location. Some of those rooms include a fireplace and/or balcony. The Inn is a 15-20 minute walk to the gondola, or use the Downtowner or free bus service for a ride to/from the gondola.
Aspen Mountain Lodge This 38 room ski lodge is also on Main Street. Stays include a hefty continental breakfast (think salmon + eggs), free parking, classic stone fireplace reception area, and hot tub. Rooms can be a little dated but are very clean and comfortable. Coffee makers are in-room along with wet bar, microwave and mini-fridge. There is not an elevator, but the top floor rooms have balconies and views of Aspen Mountain. A 15-20 minute walk to the gondola, or use the Downtowner or free bus service for a ride to/from the gondola.
Hearthstone House This 16 room lodge is 2 blocks from the center of downtown Aspen, a 10-15 minute walk to the gondola. Rooms include an extended continental breakfast, afternoon wine & Cheese, outdoor hot tub and indoor herbal steam room. Coffee maker and mini-fridge are in-room. Parking is free. No elevator to upper level rooms.
Hotel Durant This 19 room lodge is just a few blocks from the gondola. The small rooms have recently been updated. Rooms include continental breakfast, wine & cheese in the afternoons, free parking and hot tub. Top floor rooms, booked as lodge or balcony rooms, are a little quieter than the ground floor rooms. No elevator, take the stairs like a local.
Luxury Hotels in Downtown Aspen
Aspen’s The Little Nell Relais and Chateaux property is the only 5-star, 5-diamond hotel with ski-in/ski-out access,. Located at the base of the Aspen Mountain, your ski butler will ensure your boots are heated by morning and ready to go. The people watching in the bar is worth a visit even if you don’t stay at “The Nell”. The Little Nell is the epitome of understated elegance and comfort along with fabulous dining. If you are a oenophile, you’ll appreciate the 20,000+ bottle wine cellar and Wine Program.
The St. Regis Hotel is also 5-star luxe, think Frette and Ralph Lauren, and just 2 blocks from the gondola. We are partial to the St. Regis as their ‘official’ dog-in-residence is Kitty the Bernese Mountain Dog and our Bernese, Maggie, loves to visit Kitty. Kitty has a very popular Instagram account. The champagne sabering Apres-ski tradition is a classic way to end your ski day, especially if it includes a glass of Kitty Cab. The St. Regis is a Marriott property so you can earn or spend your Bonvoy points.
The Hotel Jerome a member of Auberge Resorts, has a history in Aspen dating back to 1889 (you won’t find that in Vail!). Some of the recently remodeled rooms offer full-on views of Aspen Mountain. The dining spaces are historic, modern and eclectic. The J Bar has decades of storied experiences and one of the best burgers in town. Located at Main and Mill, you’re close to everything yet you can retreat to a cozy, quite elegant room at the end of the day.
The W Aspen is the newest addition to Aspen’s downtown hotels. The property is described as a “posh mountain chalet…with a playful spin on the Alpine adventure”. The Mountain View rooftop pool apres’ ski parties often feature a live DJ to get the party started. We aren’t quite ready to apres’ in a bikini, but we’ve enjoyed some really tasty lunches on the outdoor deck. The W is also a Marriott property.
Condominiums in Downtown Aspen
There are many, many condo properties in downtown Aspen and even more in Snowmass. Below are just a few guest favorites.
The Gant. Located three blocks from the gondola plaza, the Gant features privately owned condominiums on grounds that include two heated pools, three hot-tubs, outdoor fireplace and work out facility. The condos include wood burning fire places, balcony or patio and full-size kitchen. The Gant van shuttle service makes getting around town super convenient.
Aspen Square Condominium Hotel. Local directly across from gondola plaza, the “Square” features a variety of rooms from studios to two bedroom/two bath units, all with full kitchens and wood-burning fireplaces. The property features hotel-style services and amenities and a private heated pool and two hot tubs. Aspen Mountain is on one side of the building, City Market grocery on another, and shops, galleries and restaurants on the other sides.
The North of Nell condos are directly adjacent to gondola plaza and offer 1-5 bedroom options, all with full kitchens. You are steps to the Aspen Mountain gondola and downtown Aspen is out the front door.
The Hyatt Residence Club Grand Aspen is just one block from gondola plaza. These classically appointed mountain rooms offer one, two or three bedroom accommodations. The gym is one of the best in Aspen (really!) and they have a junior Olympic size pool. Underground parking keeps your car snow free. Grab a coffee from Victorias or Ink Coffee across the street, or bring home take-out from CP Burger…the best kale salad in town.
