Mogul Technique 3: Safe Mogul Skiing Tactics
Mogul skiing tactics is about knowing (1) where to initiate a turn; (2) what skiing route to take through the mogul run; and (3) how to plan how you will ski the run.
A major problem that many skiers have with mogul technique is that they stand at the top of a mogul run and see moguls and troughs. And, they conclude that it looks like everybody before them has skied through he troughs and, therefore, that is the proper route to take.
However, skiing through the troughs is the second fastest route through the moguls (just behind the Johnny Mosley "knees pumping up to the ears like pistons" down the zipper line approach) and this trough-based mogul technique requires lightening fast reflexes. Skiing the troughs is not a good mogul skiing technique if you are an aging Boomer with slowing reflexes.
Using the right mogul technique terrain tactics makes all the difference in the world. There are many different mogul skiing techniques and many choices of what skiing route to take and where you might choose to initiate each turn. But, each mogul skiing technique, skiing route and turn location option has a different consequence.
If you are a Boomer or senior skier then you probably want to learn mogul techniques that are easy on your body and do not require you to have fast reflexes. Fortunately, such mogul techniques do exist and we will discuss these options.
