If there was one thing that we could do to strengthen the BUMPS FOR BOOMERS program ...what would it be?
Can not think of anything!

For me, who edges into the hill by habit, the most important sequence to drill is drifting down the slope at a 45 degree angle and straighten the uphill leg (stand tall & taller) to initiate the turn. I didn't get this until the 2nd or 3rd day. If this was drilled during the first day, the second & third days would have resulted in more confidence and understanding. Again, Leo Thanks to you both !
3/17/11 3:34PM
get woman coaches. at least one.
3/14/11 8:48PM
Can't think of anything
3/14/11 7:20PM
I can't think of any. Joe and Larry were great. The group was great. I can't wait to come back.
3/14/11 7:15PM
I would suggest that you have people practice repeated turn initiation to one side - start initiation and then drift, repeat to the same side.
3/14/11 4:06PM
mostly I think i need to try to do it at start of season rather than near end- so I can work on the coaching notes after the clinic.
3/9/11 8:27AM
Gather a little sooner in the morning and move along so that we could potentially hit the first run before 9:50--would allowr potentially a little more instruction time (both actually skiing and for discussion on the runs) without increasing the pace or exceeding the students exercise capacity. A video of each skier at the beginning and at the end of the course.---also could capture daily video and potential review in a wind down session with a few beverages at the end of the day.
3/5/11 1:14PM
Perhaps some use of video to show students their skiing technique and ways to improve--
3/4/11 8:25PM
Add a daily filming segment, so each student could see what his/her skiing looked like, day 1, 2, 3...I think that would be a major teaching vehicle, which the instructor and student could view and see where the 'flaws' are.
2/28/11 12:49AM
My experience was so good that I can't think of anything that could be changed or added.
2/28/11 8:33AM
Can't think of any thing. Maybe make it free so I can come every year(HA HA) Joe can you download the photo of my group to me please?
2/1/11 6:07AM
Video of our skiig some time on powder techniques Dominic Macedonia
1/26/11 4:29PM
Perhaps some kind of social interaction with other participants could be arranged.
1/24/11 4:59PM
Video once daily same run as previous day so we could actually see rather than just hear what we needs improvement. It would also show us how we have improved over the previous day.
1/24/11 12:06AM
I would do a chalk talk on the skiing technique first.
1/24/11 12:01AM
Maybe get a female instructor to appeal more positively to high anxiety female skiers. Have a regular, organized apres ski party during the course. It would be a great opportunity for all the groups to mingle, lead to networking, further opportunities for you to market your programs, etc.
1/24/11 11:41AM
like to see more refinement of skills learned on blue to black bumps with less skiing on black and double black area
1/24/11 11:35AM
I actually dont have any suggestions.
1/24/11 11:26AM
I think you have a solid formula, for me it was repetition and gaining confidence in the new tactics and that was stressed all the way through the course.
1/24/11 11:18AM
I don't know what improvements you could make. Down time before class and at lunchtime was a great time to ask questions and digest what we were learning. Time spent on the mountain went quickly. Though it was challenging, it was also so much fun. Since the class, my husband and I have bought new skis and have been practicing what we have learned during our "bumps" class. I still can not believe the terrain that I am enjoying now. This was my first ever ski class or clinic after skiing and snowboarding for the past 25 years. I would encourage any one who wants to explore the "rest of the mountain" to take this clinic.

It would have been nice to have had some sort of pre-arrangement for equipment rentals. For those of us who traveled without our skis, it felt as though the local shops were very low on selection by the time we were making rental arrangements.
1/21/11 1:22PM
Usually, I can come up with some sort of suggestion, but in this case, I cannot.

I really enjoyed it and I really learned from it. Bob was great. Other than feeling I was held back a little by the slower members of my class, I don't have any real criticisms or suggestions. Would have enjoyed doing a little more skiing and a little less waiting at the bottom of the hill for the rest of the class.
1/18/11 3:55PM
I've thought about it since the class ended and can't think of a thing. Maybe a discount for returning Boomers.
1/17/11 9:00PM
Institute a weekend refresher course 1-2 months after the primary course to "burn in" the lessons
1/17/11 8:40PM
5 day coures with 1st day only on flat grooms (and "virtual bump skiing"); 2 days skiboards, 3 days regular skis.
1/16/11 6:14PM
Standardize terms/expressions used in teaching: Larry and Joe sometimes had different terms for the same thing, and it was a little confusing at times.
1/14/11 1:16PM
Maybe get guys who are ready into the bumps sooner/faster and stay in there more/longer.
1/13/11 9:34PM
Change my personality so I skied with more confidence all the time not just in the company/tuition of the coaches!! Great programme. Recommend to anyone!
1/13/11 6:09PM
Maybe better mix of student capabilities in a class
1/13/11 7:51AM
A final meeting with the student and coaches who had interacted with him reviewing the major skills and drills to work on after leaving the program. Be brutally honest.
12/30/10 8:39AM
spend a little time up front correcting things like stance and poles/hands. Share reasons for exercises in advance so they appear less stupid.
12/29/10 7:02AM
I can't think of anything really, but some of the work has to come from us and practice, practice, practice correctly. Drills were helpful. Sometimes I would forget to apply a drill skill to the 3-dimensional terrain situation. Had a little trouble at times translating that. But being a glutton for punishment I intend to try, try again until I succeed! Be patient with us and encourage us!
12/23/10 5:31PM
I'm not sure that the short skis are necessary. Perhaps it would be better to teach the skills directly on our regular skis. Not sure...
12/23/10 9:56AM
I would recommend extending the program for one more day to consolidate lessons learned on steeper slopes.
12/23/10 9:47AM
Graduation party!
