We ask each of our mogul and powder skiing program participants to answer a "blind" survey and tell us how they felt about their participation in the Aspen, Colorado BUMPS FOR BOOMERS ® ski lesson program.
When asked: "Describe how you felt about your participation in the BUMPS FOR BOOMERS program. Any comments about the program design, coaching quality, knowledge you gained, new skills you learned and/or the degree to which we achieved your personal goals would be appreciated." ... here is what they told us - unedited and in the raw:
Coaching (Larry and Joe) was great. Learned a new way to ski. Acquired confidence to do runs I would not have previously attempted
Alan Bush was excellent! He was very thorough, very clear on describing and naming the different techniques, why they work. Great and constant feedback to each of us in the class. I'm a geek of sorts and so really was aligned with physicist Alan's way of communicating. He's a jewel!
I learned and was able to put into practice much more that I expected (from previous class experiences), and I'm so excited about trying out my new skills and perfecting them (soon as this NW blizzard stops!). One of the others in my group and I are putting together our notes on what we learned as a guide on the slopes as we practice. Thanks again for this innovative, impressive, and so effective course!
Sorry for the late response - it was a great program. I was provided new tools for handling the bumps and gained new confidence for my skiing. Sam was great. I liked that he recognized we were there to push ourselves and get better. We got a lot of runs and a lot of instruction in a couple days - just what I wanted. Keep up the great program.
Overall, very satisfied. However at times, the coached pushed skiers too far above their skill level. On one exercise, I felt there was too great a risk of injury being pushed to do something I was not yet capable of doing. Moved to bumps 201 before 101 was mastered.
Great program. Alan Bush is an extraordinary and exuberant instructor. After completion of class, I found myself skiing ungroomed blacks only. Powder skills improved as well. Wish I had acquired these skill years ago.
Using ski boards helped to build my confidence to tackle the black runs with bumps & powder. The approach to maintaining control & preserving energy etc was terrific. The focus on improving technique was excellent & what I wanted.
Liked the format and the use of the small skis for the initial learning. After the clinic and the use of the new techinques on Friday, feel much more confident in the bumps and powder. Thanks for a great experience. GO WILDCATS!
I made great strides in skiing in a more controlled fashion. The coaching quality was superb and helped me to better understand how to attack challenging terrain.
I enjoyed the course, the insturctors and the other participants. The technique is sound, practice and execution will make the difference.
learned some new things, but did not get to level I expected due to group slowness. Needed one more day.
I loved the philosophy of the program, the top instruction, the confidence building thru the 3 days. I now have a solid strategy for getting down a mogul run.
Larry was awesomwe. Learned a lot in just three days. My skiing has never been better.
I thought the program was well designed, pace was good. I would suggest rotating instructors as each instructor has a way of communicating that might "click" better with the students. Overall coaching quality was excellent. Good group of instructors
Halfway through the clinic I realized I was in the wrong ability group. Most of the third day was spent with the instructor helping two skiers who were weak in basic fundamentals. One of them had never had a lesson before. Also, the instructor used language that I considered inappropriate and offensive.
I thoroughly enjoyed the class and learned alot. I put it to the test as we skied Aspen Highlands the next day and Steamboat for 3 more days. I skied double blacks without fear based on knowing the right techniques from your class. I thoroughly enjoyed having opportunity to learn from two instructors. I also found that my skiing ability was greatly impacted by how well my boots fit and if my feet were experiencing any severe pain. Some of this was greatly improved when I wore the right amount of padding with socks and/or bandages. Loved the class, THANKS!
My experience was that the program was still evolving, kind of on the spot. This was good, but also a little dis-jointed. I did think there would be three groups, per my conversation with Joe.
I enjoyed my instructor Walter Hanselman very much; he was a very understanding and encouraging person. I would compare my experience with Walter and Bumps for Boomers to a trip I took last summer to play golf in Scotland. I liked golf before I went but never truly appreciated the skills, history and traditions before my arrival. Walter and the program were excellent for me and now I can't wait to return to the slopes and use my new found confidence.
Perhaps old tecniques were just explained in a way that finally sunk in!! I wish, at least on the third day we could have gone into some bigger bumps then Midnight. I gain confidance when I go with an instructure.
I enjoy having the new skill of "drifting" into the next bump turn. It opens up many more choices.
Good program. Relearned my skiing technique for moguls.
You have a proven program in taking a group of indivaduals with varing skills and had the whole class skiing black diamond bumps in two days...and most of us only ski one week each year...great job
I like the way Larry made us do the right thing, and will not settle for less. So often, when we take a private lesson, we feel that the instructors are too easy on us, lest they hurt our feelings. Yet he is not demeaning or sarcastic. I feel I have a great foundation on how to go down a steep bump run with grace and safety. Thank you for your patience with us. Joe is an excellent organizer. I appreciate the prompt and thorough response he gave us during the registration process.
outstanding experience great coach canot wait to continue next year
What a difference 3 days make! Before the program we skied Soddbuster - badly & stressfully - and lay exhausted in the snow for 5 mins at the bottom, thighs burning and hands shaking. The day after the program we skied Mushroom and Deception, with confidence and not a little style. True we did a little Mogul-shopping on the way and occasionally slipped into our old habit of leaning back, but at the bottom we were relaxed, thighs unburnt and ready to do it again! I am now confident that, general health, finances and global warming permitting, we have the tools to continue skiing into our 60's, 70's and even 80's. Thanks guys!
