There are a lot places to purchase wine in Aspen but there is none better than "Of Grape And Grain" on Hopkins Avenue. What sets Of Grape And Grain apart is that everyone who works in the store has a passion for discovering terrific wines that sell for very affordable prices - with a large selection under $10 a bottle. This affordability, coupled with great customer service, makes Of Grape And Grain a favorite of Aspen locals.
If your preference is to go first cabin and uncork a Petrus, Margaux or Haut Brion they will be happy to sell you a first growth. But, if you are operating on a more modest budget, or want to impress a big dinner crowd but don't want to break the bank, or you'd rather discover an interesting new wine instead of just buying an expensive "brand name" these wine merchants are the best game in town. They live and breathe vino.
Now, do we sound enthusiastic about this store? You bet we do because we get consistently good, candid and honest wine advice irrespective of the bottle price. We remain continually amazed when, given a set of wine requirements, they might propose an $8.49 bottle over several hundred other more expensive options on the shelves. And, we are even more amazed when more often than not, the wine favorably compares with other bottles 2 -3 times the price.
So our recommendation is to stop by the store, tell Gary, Johnny or the other guys what your requirements are ... and then listen to their best advice. This is a well trained staff, who knows their inventory well and you will not likely be disappointed.
