Highland Bowl: The Holy Grail of Colorado Skiing

BOWL FOR BOOMERS is a private lesson program for confident and agressive Boomers who want to test their limits. It offers the opportunity to ski Highland Bowl.

Many of you know about Highland Bowl.  It's the Holy Grail of Colorado skiing.  Featured in Warren Miller movies, the Bowl has some of the steepest and most extreme in-bounds terrain in the state of Colorado.  It is definitely the Ultimate Challenge, but with corresponding rewards.

Skiing Highland Bowl requires a strenuous 782 vertical-foot, high altitude hike up a snow-covered ridge line to the 12,392 ft. summit.  From there it is an exhilarating 1,460 vertical-foot elevator shaft descent down slopes that range from a 33 to 42 degree pitch.   It is a ski experience that is not to be forgotten and it is guaranteed to make you an apre-ski legend in the bar.

Introducing BOWL FOR BOOMERS

The BOWL FOR BOOMERS program is designed to be a "graduate" level ski experience for agressive skiers who enjoy testing their limits.

For those of you taking one of our designated two day Bumps For Boomers® clinics , we will offer an optional third half-day clinic to ski Highland Bowl.  We will ski Highland Bowl on ski boards. The techniques you learn in the two day BUMPS FOR BOOMERS® clinic will give you all the skills you need to successfully ski Highland Bowl. At this point, it becomes just a "mind game".

Here is the framework for our BOWL FOR BOOMERS private lesson. We will meet at the Aspen Highlands Ski Area at 9 a.m. on the designated day. We will warm up and refresh our newly learned skills on the wide variety of mogul terrain available to us. Mid-morning we will head to the top of the Lodge Peak chair where we will begin our roughly 45 minute hike to up Highland Bowl (referencing the photo above, we will hike along the ridge line from right to left). We will then make our decent to the bottom of the Bowl and ski out a long cat track back to the mid-mounttain MerryGoRound restaurant where we will end the half-day clinic.

The Prerequisites

There are prerequisites and admission requirements to the BOWL FOR BOOMERS program:

  1. Highland Bowl must be open and skiable (given weather and snow conditions)
  2. you must first take a 3 day BUMPS FOR BOOMERS® clinic
  3. you must be in sufficient physical condition to hike to Highland Peak
  4. you must feel confident to accomodate physical activity at high altitude
  5. you must pass our subjective confidence test that you are able to safely ski Highland Bowl

The Details

BOWL FOR BOOMERS is an Aspen private lesson program. You must take a BUMPS FOR BOOMERS® three day clinic immediately preceeding the BOWL FOR BOOMERS clinic. Private lesson rates of $665 per day apply with a maximum of two people.
